Courses at St Mary's Calne Sports Club
At St Mary's Calne Sports Club, we're all about helping individuals achieve their goals. Whether you're dipping your feet in the swimming pool for the first time, thinking of trying something new or looking to develop your skills to the highest level, we offer a huge range of quality courses and intensive lessons suitable for all ages and levels. Our lessons and courses programme offers two types of course option:
1) Continuous - Continuous courses run throughout the year with the exception of specific exclusion dates (i.e. School holiday periods for Swim School). Block payment is still required and the St Mary's Swim School operate on a 14 week block payment system.
2) Fixed date courses - Fixed date courses have a pre determined start and end date and are advertised in advance. This includes our National Pool Lifeguard Qualification and Children's Sports Holiday Camps.
RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification + AED (Defibrillator) & Anaphylaxis Modules
The NPLQ covers all elements of Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguarding Theory, First Aid, CPR, AED and Anaphylaxis. The course is physically demanding and will include swimming to set times, lifting casualties and diving to the deepest part of the swimming pool. Training and assessment for the NPLQ is in three sections and all must be successfully passed to attain the qualification.
First Aid at Work Qualification
The IQL Level 3 First Aid at Work Qualification covers a wide range of CPR and first aid skills, equipping the first-aider to apply first aid to a range of specific injuries and illness.
This three-day course covers a range of CPR and first aid skills, providing you with the skills to ensure a safe working environment.
Sports Holiday Camps
During the school holidays, we host multi sports holiday camps for children aged 8-15 years at the Sports Centre. A fun filled week of various indoor, outdoor and aquatic sports to keep your child occupied during the holiday periods.
RLSS UK's Rookie Lifeguard programme gives your child the skills they need to be confident in the pool or the sea which means peace of mind for you. With colourful materials and fun, varied activities, the Rookie Lifeguard scheme teaches children how to swim and enjoy water safely, whether in shallow or deeper water.
This course is primarily for children aged 8-12 years and begins at an ability level suitable for swimmers who have just learned to swim and progresses to the level of performing lifesaving tows, CPR and multiple person rescues.
Intensive Swimming Lessons
Intensive Swimming Lessons Provide extra attention and support for your child, helping them achieve the specific criteria required for the stage they are currently working towards. These courses run during school holiday periods. The stages offered each holiday may vary depending on demand. The class capacity is 6 and stages 1 and 2 are taught from the water.
Our beginner and intermediate running courses run for 10 weeks and our expert coaching team will help you achieve your goal. Whether you are a complete novice or have some experience, join us on our couch to 5km beginners or 5 to 10km intermediate development course.
